Did you know that there are two urban farms nestled on top of multi-storey carparks in Ang Mo Kio? One is located at Block 700 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, which started operating in 2019, and the newest addition is at Block 946A Hougang Street 92.
Repurposing these under-utilised spaces for urban farming is part of the initiatives by the Singapore Food Agency to achieve “30 by 30”, the national goal of producing 30% of our nutritional needs locally by 2030.
Lentor resident Mr Eugene Koh knew that incorporating physical activity into his family’s weekend routine was important for their overall health and well-being.
“With Singapore’s fast-paced lifestyle, it is important for us to engage in regular exercise to stay healthy,” said the 37-year-old executive.
He was excited to find a ping-pong table placed near the Residents’ Committees Centre at Block 624 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 at the end of last year. He said: “I often gather my family and some friends to play ping-pong here. We are happy to have this facility to add an interesting dimension to the sports activities we can do near home.”
Besides being a fun way to bond with family and friends, hitting the little ball around also does wonders for our health. Mr Koh shared: “The game requires fast and quick reactions, so it improves our hand-eye coordination and agility.”
Playing table tennis also helps clear our minds, relieve stress and improve concentration. Here’s a gentle reminder: Please be considerate and observe the quiet hours between 10.30pm and 7am. Do not occupy the ping-pong tables for long hours so that other neighbours can also enjoy the facilities.
