Aedes mosquitoes enjoy hot and humid weather as it allows them to breed faster. With Singapore entering the warmer months from June to October, we need to be proactive to stop these blood-sucking insects from lurking around us.
It’s a known fact that a small amount of water — the size of a 20-cent coin — is enough for the Aedes mosquitoes to breed. Hence, the best way to keep them away is to eliminate their breeding grounds by keeping your house clean and practising the MozzieWipeout at least once a week.

Purple is the new colour
You must have seen the red, yellow and green banners used by the National Environment Agency (NEA) to alert residents to the presence of dengue in your neighbourhood. And now, there is this new purple banner.
It is put up in places with persistently high populations of Aedes mosquitoes and which have a higher risk of dengue clusters forming. Residents must stay vigilant and check potential breeding areas in homes regularly, such as water storage containers, flower pot plates and toilet bowls, to ensure that mosquitoes are not given the chance to breed.
Prevention is better than cure
It is helpful to take additional precautionary measures to protect us and our loved ones from getting mosquito bites. Besides checking for breeding and removing stagnant water, it is also useful to carry out three protective actions against dengue: “Spray, Apply, Wear (S-A-W)”.
