If you think feeding these birds is a kind and caring act, think again! Your behaviour is more than just a nuisance, it also causes serious health problems and consequences.
Here are six reasons why you should not feed pigeons:
1 They spread diseases to humans through contaminated droppings or via contact with diseased birds.
2 Bird droppings contain uric acid that can damage property and public amenities.
3 Leaving food for the pigeons dirties the environment and attracts other pests, such as cockroaches and rats.
4 Regular feeding of pigeons encourages them to stay and breed. This leads to overpopulation.
5 Large flocks of birds may cause panic, discomfort and fear to the public.
6 It may change their natural behaviour in sourcing food, resulting in birds fighting or turning aggressive towards humans in order to obtain food.
