You may have heard of Juying Primary School in Jurong West, which has now merged with Pioneer Primary School. The school started its journey as Ju Eng Public School in Jalan Kayu. It was founded by Mr Ang Oon Hui in 1940 as a Chinese-aided school. Ju Eng (聚英) means “a gathering of talents” in Chinese. In 1987, the school was forced to close due to declining enrolment. Mr Ang then converted the disused premises into the Ju Eng Home for Senior Citizens, which can now accommodate more than 500 residents.
