What comes to mind when we think of industrial estates? Grey and dusty, you might say. But Hampstead Wetlands Park will prove you wrong. Located within the aerospace cluster known as Seletar Aerospace Park, it is Singapore’s first wetlands in an industrial estate and home to diverse flora and fauna.
Resident Mr Isaac Wong, 23, a lover of greenery, was pleasantly surprised when he stumbled upon the wetlands after eating at a nearby café.
“It’s refreshing to see such lush greenery in our urban landscape, and it provides a very nice environment for families to spend time together,” he said. He also shared that although the wetlands park isn’t close to HDB flats, it is easily accessible by public bus.
The 3.23-hectare park (about the size of four football fields) opened in April 2020. It features a water lily pond, scenic broadwalks, viewing decks and nature trails. The pond is set against a backdrop of native trees and shrubs, creating a rustic sanctuary.
Resident Ms Azel Corpuz, 30, said: “The view of the water lily pond is a calming sight. It is not crowded here and is a very peaceful place that I like to visit with my loved ones.” She recommended a late afternoon stroll through the wetlands before dinner at The Oval, a nearby foodie haven.
How to get there: Take Bus 102, 103 or 117 and alight at Seletar Aerospace Drive before Baker Street (bus stop 68099) or after Baker Street (bus stop 68091), which are just outside the wetlands park. The nearest carpark is 50 metres away from the park at 2 Park Lane.
